Abstract

This paper presents an international literature review on the topic of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) in Engineering Education. Seventeen highly relevant empirical studies published in English over the past five years and available in the Web of Science database were selected, focusing on the application of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) in engineering education. The selection process employed the filters "Virtual Reality," "Augmented Reality," and "Engineering Education-Teaching." Based on the analysis of these studies, the article describes the positive aspects, criticisms, inconclusive results, and unsatisfactory outcomes.The analysis of the 17 articles on the use of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) in engineering education reveals a dynamic and complex landscape. While these studies highlight benefits such as increased engagement, motivation, and comprehension of complex concepts, they also point to significant challenges and uncertainties regarding the implementation and effectiveness of these technologies. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are promising technologies for engineering education, but their effective adoption requires a careful and evidence-based approach. It is essential to consider both the benefits and challenges, invest in further research, develop appropriate pedagogical strategies, provide training and support for educators and students, and ensure the necessary infrastructure to maximize their positive impact on the education of future engineers.
