Agile Teaching in Engineering: A Review on the Use of Scrum for Developing 21st-Century Competencies
Keywords:

This study examines the use of agile methodologies, with an emphasis on Scrum, in engineering education and its contribution to the development of 21st-century competencies. Based on a systematic literature review, eight studies were analyzed that demonstrate the effectiveness of Scrum in promoting skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, autonomy, and problem-solving, aligning technical training with labor market demands. The analysis revealed connections between agile methodologies, interpersonal competencies, and pedagogical innovation. Limitations were also identified, including the lack of standardized assessment criteria, the restricted application of agile approaches to technical subjects, and the scarcity of longitudinal studies on their impact on professional performance. It is concluded that integrating agile methods represents progress in engineering education while opening new avenues for research into their application in interdisciplinary and competency-based learning contexts.
